Do they now?

If that were the case, you wouldn’t need the sign, would you?

I expected better of CNN

CNN make a common mistake

Now, whilst I’m not a great fan of highlighting simple spelling errors (everyone makes them, after all), the plural of most words ending in ‘-ium’ is ‘-ia’. This slippage is getting more and more common, and I don’t like it.

Well, duh!

21 January 2007

Spotted on the packaging of a ham roll this week:

“Bread literally comes out of the ovens, is cooled, sliced, and sent to our sandwich department.”

As opposed to metaphorically coming out of the oven, then? Also note the use of the ‘Oxford’ comma (after ’sliced’). I wouldn’t have used it, but it’s a subject for debate. No question though: that metaphorical bread sure is tasty…

In my own office!

I spotted this travesty hanging around in the same building as I work!

Thanks to James for spotting this little gem on the streets of Bristol.

Stick to fighting, Rocky.

“It ain’t over ’til it’s over.” Not so. “It ain’t (ugh) over till it’s over.” “Till” is a word in its own right, and not a contraction of “until”. This picture doesn’t have it (it was the only one I could find) but the UK version of this poster featured a second apostrophe, making it: “It ain’t over ’til’ it’s over”; which is just ridiculous.

Debenhams

I know that “Debenhams” might be a plural, but they still possess the sale:

“Debenhams’ biggest ever…”
